The UNESCO World Heritage Medici Villas

Since June 2013, the Medici Villas were added to UNESCOs World Heritage List. Not just 2 or 3 villas were recognised, but a total of 12! This was fantastic news to me.

12 villas situated in the vast territory of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, once under the domination of the Medici:

Villa of Careggi (Florence), Villa of Castello (Florence), Villa of Petraia (Florence), Villa of Poggio Imperiale (Florence), Villa Medici at Fiesole (Fiesole), Villa of Cerreto Guidi (Cerreto Guidi, Florence), Villa of Cafaggiolo (Barberino di Mugello), Villa of Trebbio (San Piero a Sieve), Villa The Magia (Quarrata, Pistoia), Villa of Artimino (Carmignano, Prato), Villa of Poggio a Caiano (Prato) and Villa of Seravezza (Lucca); as well as two Medici gardens: the Boboli gardens at the Pitti Palace and the garden of the Villa of Pratolino.
