Guided Tour of Lucca

The solid Renaissance wall that still completely encircles the historic centre today is Lucca’s landmark. Without it, Lucca would not be the city it was in the past, nor the city it is today. And this is exactly where we will start our visit!

Our walk will continue along the narrow streets leading to the large squares of Napoleone and San Michele in Foro. We will admire the Church of St Michael, the Basilica of St Frediano and, of course, the monumental Cathedral of St Martin. Walking down the medieval alleys, we will take in the Roman amphitheatre, the tower topped by trees which was built by the Guinigi family, and the house where the most famous son of Lucca was born, Giacomo Puccini.

But Lucca has more to offer than just unique monuments. The city is still home to numerous historic shops that bear witness to the commercial spirit of the Lucchese people. This has formed the basis of Lucca’s economy since the Middle Ages. During our tour, we will discover the historic, family-run shops and craft workshops that form the vibrant heart of the city, where traditions are still very much alive.
