Guided Tour of Siena
Maybe because it’s located on three hills, because it’s mainly built with bricks or because it’s extremely well-kept and neat, in any case, the charm of Siena is unique. Walking along its old streets, we will visit the heart of the city, Piazza del Campo, where we will find Palazzo Pubblico and where the Palio (horse race) is celebrated twice a year! A surprising square, for its shell shape and adaptation to the hilly land on which it’s situated. We will continue towards the splendid Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta on the highest hill of the city. This cathedral is one of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque Gothic architecture in Italy! But we will also get to know the 17 contradas (wards) and feel what life there is like, Via dei Banchi di Sopra with its lively shops and the oldest working bank in the world, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena! Since it’s also the birthplace of Saint Catherine, co patron of Italy, we will also visit its Church of San Domenico!
