Walking tour in Pietrasanta
Between the Apuan Alps and the Tyrrhenian Sea lies the charming town of Pietrasanta, built by the Republic of Lucca in the mid-1200s. Today it is nicknamed Little Athens, due to the fact that many artists and craftsmen of marble, bronze and iron live and work there. In fact, wherever you walk in Pietrasanta you will encounter impressive sculptures created by artists from all over the world: The Warrior by Fernando Botero (Colombian), The Centaur by Igor Mitoraj (Polish) or The Key to the Dream by Kan Yasuda (Japanese) are just some of them. Pietrasanta is a large open-air contemporary art museum. Come and discover its history, its works of art, the large central square with the Cathedral of San Martino, the church of Sant’Agostino and the unique Museum of Models (Museo dei Bozzetti) with approx. 700 plaster models of sculptures made by Italian and foreign artists.
